Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about roof suitability, scaffolding, and typical timeline expectations.
Do I need to own my home?
Can you install on any roof?
Do I need planning permission?
For our service, yes, you need to own the property where the panels will be installed.
Your roof needs to be pitched (slopes downwards). We can install on multiple roofs other than your home roof, e.g. garage roof or outhouse roof.
Solar installations fall under Permitted Development in most UK residential areas. Listed buildings and conservation zones may require local council approval.
Do I need a south-facing roof?
No.
South-facing is ideal, but east- and west-facing roofs still work really well.
What if my roof has leaks, damp or missing tiles?
We won’t be able to install solar panels on a roof that needs repair. We recommend that repairs are completed before progressing with a solar quote.
Panels & batteries
Do solar panels work during winter months?
Should I add battery storage to my system?
Can I sell excess energy back to the grid?
Solar panels generate power from daylight rather than heat. While output is lower during short winter days, panels produce electricity consistently year-round.
Batteries store any excess energy produced so you can use it later. They're good for using more of your own solar energy, further reducing your electricity bills and shifting your energy use to cheaper times.
Yes. Through the Smart Export Guarantee scheme, electricity suppliers pay you for solar power your system feeds back into the national grid.
Cost & returns
How much does it cost?
How much an I save on my energy bill?
Can I sell excess energy produced?
It depends on how many panels you have installed and whether you opt for battery storage. You can contact us for a free quote.
This varies depending on your home size, solar array & battery size as well as the kind of items you have at home (for example, electric heating).
Yes. Through the Smart Export Guarantee scheme, you can sell any surplus energy your panel generate back to the national grid.
