10 Easy Tips
Easy tips for reducing energy usage at home
Here are some small changes you can make at home to reduce your energy usage.
💡Switch to LED lightbulbs. They use less energy.
👚Air-dry your clothes. (Rather than tumble-drying).
🪟Double-glaze your windows. This will help keep the heat in and also help with noise control.
📴Switch devices off when you're not using them. This means turning them off at the wall and/or shutting down a device rather than leaving it on standby. Find out more about Vampire Devices.
🌡️Wash your clothes at 30 degrees or lower. Less energy is used as your machine doesn't have to heat the water as much.
🚿Reduce your shower time. The less water you use, the more energy you save.
🧣Wrap up your hot water tank. This helps keep the heat in. You can buy a hot water cylinder jacket online.
♨️Let heat circulate your home. Move furniture away from radiators, remove radiator covers, and make sure your curtains aren't covering your radiators.
🔌Upgrade your home appliances to more energy-efficient models (if you're able to). Newer models tend to be more energy-efficient, e.g. kettles, microwaves, TVs.
🚰Only fill your kettle with as much water as you need. This is more energy-efficient than boiling a full kettle.
