Through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)
The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) is a government-backed initiative, launched on 1st January 2020.
It requires some electricity suppliers, known as SEG Licensees, to pay small-scale generators, known as SEG Generators (e.g. people with solar panels on their home), for low-carbon electricity which they export back to the National Grid.
So, in short, you can sell any surplus energy your solar panels generate back to the National Grid, provided the criteria are met.
